Miniatures

I have painted miniatures for most of my life, starting with Warhammer Fantasy and Warhammer 40,000 and expanding into other miniature ranges including Infinity and Marvel: Crisis Protocol, with excursions into more types of models such as Gundam kits. I have recently begun working mostly on larger-scale display models and dioramas.

The evolution of miniature painting

In recent years, there has been a shift in miniature painting, where models once used as wargame pieces are now treated as art, telling stories and evoking emotions.

This medium is still young, with endless room to grow compared to novels, movies, and TV. The storytelling aspect of this change is fascinating. A diorama can be more than just well-painted models on a base; adding a narrative brings depth beyond technical skill.

Painting miniatures competitively

Painting miniatures is how I unwind, and over time it has developed into a means of creative expression. I have painted competitively and have so far won a Bronze at Golden Demon Germany 2007, a Bronze medal at Miniature Painting Open Bristol 2024, and a Highly Commended award at Fen Miniatures Show 2024.
